Contributing to an intelligent tutoring system and curriculum-aligned mathematics activities.
Role: Software Engineer / Research Assistant
Organization: Center for Knowledge and Communication, UMass Amherst
Focus: Intelligent tutoring · K–12 mathematics · Educational software
My contribution
As a software engineer and research assistant, I develop and deploy the MathSpring intelligent tutoring system on AWS. My work also includes creating interactive multimedia mathematics problems aligned with K–12 curriculum standards.
Connecting software and learning activities
This work brings together the operation of an educational platform and the design of activities students encounter while learning mathematics. My responsibilities span software development, deployment, and curriculum-aligned multimedia content.
In the same research setting, I also design educational games and learning activities for the Wearable Learning Cloud Platform.
Connection to my broader work
Intelligent tutoring systems, visual explanations, and classroom dialogue all connect to my interest in creating opportunities for learners to reason and receive feedback. MathSpring is one setting in which I contribute to the software and activities that support those opportunities.
